The bit between Christmas and New Year. Where would you go?

We are a family of 5 (inc 3 x DS) looking to go away between Christmas and New Year. Ideally 27th December - 31st December. No preference on UK or abroad. Would just like to get away for a break.

Any suggestions / recommendations?

Do you wish to embrace the Christmas season, or escape it? Knowing that might help people to help you more. 😊

We went to Prague last year between Christmas & new year and loved it. All the Christmas markets were still on, lots of things to do.

We are going to Iceland this year. Normally we stay home and get bored.

My DD and Sil take DGC to a beach break in Cornwall. They stay in a house about 150 metres from a beach. The kids don't care it's not sunny they just running around free.

Iceland is fab at that time of year.
Winterbaum is at Phantasialand in Germany. (Awesome theme park). It looks brilliant and something I've debated.

Following for ideas!

Center Parcs might suit. The indoor tropical swimming complex is lovely when it's cold outside, you can go to the spa while the DC are doing activities and the lodges are really cosy.

Canaries for sun.
Prague is beautiful. Would go again.

It's not cheap, but really excellent value with plenty for everyone young and old, sporty or just lunging by the pool

Malaga for the Christmas lights. The Spanish celebrations are on epiphany, so the lights are still up.

I've decided I need a bit of blue sky in that bit after Christmas so we've booked to go to Lara Beach in Turkey on the 27th to the 3rd. It might be a bit quiet but the hotel has 1 outdoor heated pool, an indoor pool and a beach. Temps are looking at 16-18, which will certainly beat Scotland at that time of year!

My family and another family have gone to centre parcs the past 3 years. Going again this year. Dates vary but usually 28th dec for 3 or 4 nights over new year. It's brilliant to have something to look forward to after Xmas. The lights are still up and the kids love the pool.

We have been to Bluestone in Wales a few times at Twixtmas, and it works well for us. My kids are a bit big for their Christmas stuff now though.

Would work well if your DSs are primary age and you want more Christmas spirit rather than less of it.

If not, Pembrokeshire, where Bluestone is, is really nice anyway. It rains a lot but it can do that at any time of year - and you can be really lucky with the weather. A winter time beach walk when it’s dry but bracing is amazing.

longdistanceclaraclara · 05/09/2024 11:43

Depending on budget, Muscat.

Claretmum · 05/09/2024 11:59

We've done Lanzarote for the past two years. Once for Xmas and once for New Year. Nice and hot both times!

EvergreenIsBest · 05/09/2024 12:05

We went to Copenhagen once at that time - it was amazing

Jammedchakra · 05/09/2024 17:17

Ski!

cheezncrackers · 05/09/2024 17:30

Four days only? Can you be arsed to fly? If so then city break in Europe. We went to Lisbon one year for new year and that was great.

If not, then either city break in the UK or a lovely country house hotel with nice walks, good food and an indoor pool somewhere that isn't to far away.

We're going to Phantasialand land this year between Xmas and NY. Can't wait! 3 nights in the ling Bao hotel which has a new spa, then a night in Cologne as supposed to be lovely there!

Do you know if this offers all including food and drinks - I can’t seem to find any information out about this in their website!

I have not tried the food or the drinks package, some details https://www.clublasanta.com/restaurants/atlantico

We do a mixture of self catering, eating out in the campus restaurants [[https://www.clublasanta.com/restaurants and walking about a mile to https://www.salmarinarestaurante.com/en/la-santa

We found the food in the restaurants good and healthy, but might have taken too much time away from other activities so the mix worked better for us. The buffet 'package' plus one or two meals in the table service restaurants was perfect for the many people who came as a group, especially multi-generational families and whole sports teams, for whom it was good to have a fixed costs plus all the buffet choice.

Restaurant Atlántico at Club La Santa, Lanzarote

Restaurant Atlántico is Club La Santa's buffet restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You’ll always find a good selection of foods and drinks.
