Venice early-mid october

I will be going to Venice the 2nd week of October and just wondering what sort of clothes to pack? I was thinking jeans and a light jacket for the evenings but I do feel the cold so maybe need a proper winter coat? What about daytime?

I went at the end of October and it was hot for 2 days (20s) and soaking wet and freezing the rest of the time. So be prepared!

I don't think you'll need a proper winter coat but it could be wet so worth taking a waterproof and layers. Hard to tell. The Italians will be in their autumn wardrobes though.. lightweight puffer jacket could also work!
