Hi everyone, we would like to get the spirit of Scotland train passes and travel
around Scotland for a week this October and would love suggestions of where to go in the highlands. Particularly beaches, parks, national trust properties that are short walks (20mins) from rail stations. Thinking of doing Glasgow up to mallaig stopping on route but open to suggestions

I would do Glasgow or Edinburgh to Inverness via Pitlochry and Aviemore as the stations are right in the villages, there's decent bus services and more toddler friendly things to do, particularly in Aviemore. Blair Castle isn't national trust for Scotland but might appeal if you like that sort of thing. Also, check opening times for October as they sometimes reduce hours by the end of the month for winter. If you had time you could always do Loch Lomond as a day trip from Glasgow, or Portobello in Edinburgh has a proper promenade and sandy beach, or a day trip from Edinburgh to the Fife coast which is well served by bus and trains. The west coast highland beaches are stunning but they're literally just sand and could be very cold and windy in October!
