Hello -
looking at Lyon for April with 2 DC 5 and 8. Has anyone been and would or would not recommend? My youngest loves train trips so last year did Nice and managed lots - any experience of trains in the area gratefully received!

Lyon is a lovely city, set of two rivers it is nice for wandering round. Lots of history including a Roman Amphitheare. It is very foodie - lots of traditional French cuisine - heavy on the meat, cheese and cream! There is a lovely park - Tete D'or

It is very easy to get to by train from Paris and Lille. Lyon Part Dieu TGV station is very very well connected to all parts of France by high speed train.

It is about a 20 min walk or a guided bus journey in to the main city. Do not be tempted by the cheaper OuiGo prices as they often only stop at Lyon St Exupery and you will need to get the tram back in to the centre.

We stayed at College Hotel which is in a historic former school house - well located in the centre of the old town and delicious breakfast.

They will enjoy the Tunnel de Croix Rousse as well.

If you want to do trains I’d recommend Avignon. It’s an interesting city itself but is a train hub and you can get to loads of places eg Marseilles and Nimes by train.

That’s so helpful, thanks so much. Much appreciated

If your children like trains the city also has interesting metropolitan transport - a small subway system, trams and a funicular railway up Mount Fourviere
