Cape Town area hotel recommendations

My sister and I are going to Cape Town in late January for a family wedding. It's taking place in one of the vineyards in the West Somerset area. I don't know S Africa at all and am at a loss as to where to book to stay! We want to stay somewhere nice, where we can relax, is next to a beach and easy to get to sightseeing spots. The wedding is only one day but we’ve got to get to it and then back late at night. Gordon’s Bay seems the nearest to that area but probably a 50 min drive into Cape Town which seems a bit much and I don’t know how public transport works around there. Any suggestions gratefully received!

I live in Cape Town. I would look at choosing your hotel by the beach separately and then go to the winelands for a few days around the wedding.

Bear in mind that beaches on the Atlantic side of the peninsula (eg Clifton, Camps Bay, Llandudno) are the most picturesque but the water is freezing! The Indian Ocean side (Simonstown, Kalk Bay, Muizenberg) is warmer but not so central. Staying in Clifton or Camps Bay might be best in terms of being able to Uber to lots of places for dinner etc but still having a beach nearby.

While Uber does work well here, to get the most from a visit you really need a car. The best thing about Cape Town is the natural environment not the city itself.
