What are your requirements (boxes)?

bizzey · 31/08/2024 19:33

All the requirements are ticked in the property I have found ...apart from knowing if the balcony is actually suitable for sitting on !

Just the area is an unknown to me .

If you are on a budget, I suggest staying in Padova, which is a lovely old university city in its own right. The train into Venice takes about 40 minutes and costs about €5.

Castello is a lovely area. Have stayed there and somewhere else and Castello was my favourite.

TBH any area outside of San Marco is lovely as San Marco is a tourist hellhole.

You get everywhere by walking/vaporetto anyway - remembering that often vaporetto is easier as the Venetians basically went everywhere by boat.

Castello has the advantage of being an easy walk to San Marco and some of the main sites as well.

@AnnaMagnani ohh thank you !

And I suppose there will be restaurant/bars for us in the evening?

@samarrange ...thank you ...I will keep that place in mind for a day trip for us.
But I don't want to have to be doing a 40 min train into Venice every day .

Yes! and the best part is that it won't be flooded by tourists, it'll be as busy as it gets.
*A note for the future, please give more details, I thought being on a bugdet meant £400 at max, guess when I travel I'm on a budget pro max

There absolutely will be restaurants.

It's a while since we went but our faves were Al Covo, Corte Sconta, Bistrot de Venise and CoVino. These are all v close together and there are a lot of restaurants nearby all of which are likely good.

TBH it wasn't that hard to eat well in Venice as long as we avoided pizza and San Marco - the one time I got hangry on San Marco we were absolutely fleeced for some terrible food.

Castello is also v convenient for my favourite sight, the Scuola di San Giorgio degli Schiavoni. Stunning paintings including an excellent George and the Dragon.

Is transport links ok ?

For quick access, be near the No 1 Vaporetto stops. So Arsenale, or Giardini. Bear in mind July will be fiercely hot , you don’t want a long walk to anywhere! Personally, I’d go in Autumn or Spring. High summer is horrible.

Dates are t changeable unfortunately!

Ohh I wish I had given birth at a different time of year !
