Hotels.com - change in rewards

I've used Hotels.com for years - love the fact that you get a free night for every 10 nights booked through them, so in effect a 10% discount on every booking.

Just recently I've seen that I have a cash reward, and having looked in to it and spoken to them via chat, I can see that now the reward is 'cash' rather than nights, and equates to 2% rather than 10%.

Bit of a letdown, and I haven't seen it publicised - just thought others might also be interested. I get £19.14 on a booking in excess of £1,000 - bit of a disappointment!

I agree that the new reward system is pretty rubbish compared to the old one. I believe that they reversed the change in some countries as business fell sharply for hotels.com because of it.

Like a lot of others I have a certain amount of "cash" to spend with them, converted from the stamps I had towards a free night from the old system. After this is spent I will no longer have any incentive to use them. So a bit of an own goal, as I made a lot of business bookings through them. Disappointing.

No idea what triggered that, nothing controversial other to say that it’s rubbish and I’ll be booking direct more.

I wouldn't have minded if they'd been more upfront, but the woman (via chat) kept insisting that there were other benefits - none of which I've found.

Shall definitely check Trivago more!

Similar disappointment in this house.

I always book via Hotels.com and the change to the new Key rewards is so disappointing. Just checked the hotels I’ve got booked for next month and for one stay costing £509 I will receive £8.93 which is way less than what this would count towards for free night stamps average spend.

Ive decided after this next trip I’ll just be using whatever website is cheapest & using discount codes where possible. Which is a shame as I’ve always received excellent service from Hotels.com. 🤷‍♀️

We have too @Vanillalime - and booked around 80 nights a year with them, more on occasions.

I'm more irritated that that wouldn't accept that their previous reward amounted to a 10% discount (or 10% of the value of a free hotel room), and that I should be grateful for the 2% they now offer. Just kept speaking to me as if I'm stupid!
