Any experience of Worldpackers?

My DC is planning to go backpacking in SE Asia next summer and someone recommended Worldpackers to him. It seems to be a subscription-based peer-to-peer network for arranging volunteering opportunities in exchange for accommodation. Sounds good, but before he signs up, does anyone have any experience of it?

My DD has done ‘Workaway’ in Germany and Thailand. They might be worth a look.

This looks like a form of volunteer tourism which is something worth avoiding. Job descriptions include teaching languages, painting walls and working in kitchens as a kitchen hand.

Attila, I think that depends on the choice of project. His intention is just to do a bit of transitory voluntary work in return for free bed and board. I'm sure he'll choose wisely, and he isn't the type to boast about saving the world on social media.
