London Tube fares

Hi I'm off to London soon for a four day break. I'm wondering what would be the cheapest way of using the tube. Would a day pass be better or would it be cheaper to buy a four day ticket ?

@SweetShreddedCoconut oh ok. Other than tracking journeys it doesn't seem to do anything different to it not being registered.
You still get the price cap even if not registered.
Anyway...... enjoy your trip 🙂
@LlamaNoDrama always tap out even if the barriers are open. Just because they are open it doesn't make any difference. Sometimes at busy times they are left open to make it quicker to get everyone through - but you still need to tap your card. The act of tapping your card (and it going "beep") is the important bit. Not the gates opening. Some stations don't have gates - just a stand alone Oyster/Contactless reader.

Thanks everyone. I just registered for peace of mind ( overthinker 😂) I was just worried that some how I would end up paying ££££ on fares and missing out on the fare cap .

One more question: Are the tubes and buses combined when it comes to the fare cap using a debit card ? If I used a combination would the fare cap apply ?

@SweetShreddedCoconut the price cap covers all tfl transport (Tube, buses, trams, Lizzy Line, Docklands Light railway and Overground). It also covers train companies if the journey is within the London Zones (so Southern Trains, Thameslink etc).
All included and you can mix and match !

Just make sure you tap in and out with the same card. Any mistake and tap in / out with different cards will charge you more.

And ALWYS use the same method ie if you use your physical debit card to tap in, tap out with that and not that same debit card on Apple Pay/on your phone/on a watch. It'll charge you more

I take it you tap out on buses too ? Excuse me for being dense ? It's a long time since I've been to London

@SweetShreddedCoconut don't tap out on buses. Just when you get on. It's a flat fare all over London.
