Lapland -Levi

For those that have done Lapland at Christmas, if you had the choice of staying at Northern Lights Village for the whole trip (all arranged, including meals, trips etc) or staying self-catering in the centre of Levi and booking own trips, restaurants etc, which would you do? We'd be travelling with small kids.

We self catered in Levi and organised all our own trips. I can't comment on the other option. It was pretty easy to do. There is a tourist office there (with an online portal) where you can book whatever activities you want in advance. There are also plenty of restaurants and a supermarket or two. It was all very easy and very walkable (albeit a kind of cold I've never experienced before and never want to again!)

Thanks, that's helpful. I think in my mind I like the idea of being in the centre of Levi and being able to go out to lunch/dinner and other places etc but in reality, with small kids, I wonder whether we'd actually want to do that because of the cold and the faff of having to put all the warm stuff on!

Yeah, if your kids are little it will definitely be a faff getting them all dressed up and the easier option would probably be a place with everything on site. Our kids were 7 and 11 and they were fine, but they're used to skiing and putting all the gear on to go anywhere.
