Hi, we are planning to go away somewhere in europe for a week in October with our 2 year old and looking for suggestions of where yo go. Looking for:

  • somewhere warm
  • in a decent sized town or city where we can walk to restaurants
  • ideally with some activities suited to our daughter e.g. zoo, sealife Centre, museums
  • within reach of a beach (by public transport) to visit a couple of days
  • not too packed

Considering malaga or lisbon but been to both before so new suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

We found the temperature perfect in Valencia at the beginning of October and there's quite a bit to do, plus a big sandy beach.

We had a lovely week in Venice at that time of year. It was more than warm enough for the beach (I think we were lucky).
Malta or Cyprus would be good options.

If you only have a two year old, look up the dates for the October half term and book to go before or after - it will be a much more pleasant experience and cheaper! I miss the days when we could go on holiday off peak.

I would say before. The October half term prices are usually for the final week or two, and after that the season is finished in Europe pretty much everywhere except maybe a few places in Turkey. Whereas the first week in October still gives you most of the Med.

We had good times in Lyon and Marseille in October, also the Loire and Bordeaux and also north Holland coast and southern Germany.

TBH toussaint is the new summer holidays for us, good weather, fewer people, not too hot in the south or too cold in the north.

Come down to the Algarve - Carvoeiro is nice that time of year - restaurants all open but without the craziness of August. Perhaps Rocha Brava resort - has everything on site and plenty of restaurants within a short walk. Children's playground is on site as well.

Thanks you yes we will be going before the half term so hopefully we get slightly better weather

Early October is lovely in the Med. I second Valencia as a good choice. It's a shortish flight and has a superb aquarium, a nice beach, it has a lovely park on the old riverbed that runs through the city with playgrounds and you can rent bikes, including those Surrey bikes with seats for adults and a DC can ride in the front. It will be warm and lovely in early Oct.
