I haven’t been to cambrils but really liked tossa de mer, such a novelty having a castle on a beach and pleasant small town.

We stayed out of the town itself up in the hills and the coves are lovely

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve read that the beach shelves steeply and is stony but maybe the coves are better.

I’m in Tossa de Mar this week and currently staying at the Golden Bahia hotel! Tossa is extremely busy right now but very nice. Lovely restaurants, shops, beach, old town cobbled streets and castle. It’s bigger than I expected it to be tbh, but still nice. Good mix of visitors, lots of Spanish and French holiday makers, no tacky bars etc. The Golden Bahia hotel is very good , the food is lovely, very clean everywhere, several pools, brand new adult only roof bar and pool and there is no sunbed hogging around the pool. They are very strict on that. Good kids club and activities on offer too if that’s your thing.

Haven’t been to Cambrils but I have been further along the coast to Pineda de Mar, Malgrat. Calella and Santa Susanna. The beach/sea is much better in Tossa, no steep shelf and big waves, great for swimming and snorkelling but that wasn’t possible in Pineda and SS where the waves were pretty hardcore, Tossa beach is fine stones rather than sand. Tossa more expensive than the others but definitely feels more cosmopolitan in its vibe. I think we will come back to the hotel and the town.

Thank you so much for such a detailed reply. It was really helpful! We going to stick with tossa and golden Bahia. I’m looking forward to it. Also, thinking about day trips nearby- are there any that you can suggest please ? Thank you

Just back from Tossa too. We love it there and have been many times. The beach is great for snorkelling, you just walk straight out and there are loads of fish. There's a waterpark in Loret de Mar which might be a nice day out. There are boat trips also. Loads of lovely shops and restaurants in Tossa. Gerona is a lovely day trip also.

Thank you for the replies everyone! Tossa ( snorkelling) and golden Bahia sound great. We were thinking about a day trip to Girona - although I’m not sure if it will be interesting for the kids. Also considering waterworld or marineland- both have really variable reviews. Not sure if any of you have visited either of those places. Thank you

I've been to Tossa de mar. We did a jeep trip which was great. Also the boat trips.

Lovely market and the walk around the castle is brilliant. There a really small cove through it which is great for a swim.

Water park at Lloret

Enjoy!

Girona is fantastic if you are at all interested in history and it's a lovely shopping centre too.

Brilliant - thank you so much for all the replies - looking forward to it ! x

Game of Thrones was filmed around the old Girona walls. Worth a visit.

arinya · 25/08/2024 17:59

Lloret has the water park but the rest of it is quite Blackpool

Can Kiku in Girona and St Feliu de Guixols (very nice) is excellent for lunch.

Amy2000 · 25/08/2024 19:20

Is there much for kids to enjoy in Girona ?

It will depend on what your DC like, as always. Girls of 15 and 10 should think Girona is smart and cool. It's definitely a city, so no play parks in the centre. But all the nice Spanish chain stores and top gelato ice creams. A very ancient centre along both banks of a river. (Disclaimer: our party were all adults, and we all loved it. It was noisy all night on Saturday night though.)

Thank you everyone. In Tossa now- really lovely especially at night around the Castle. Hotel has really good food. Just about to book the Tossa Jeep 1 hour so hoping that will be fun. It’s getting weird mentioned that it was good.

Home now and already booked Tossa again for next year! Have a great week!

Amy2000 · 06/09/2024 19:37

Back from Tossa - was lovely night - live music on the beach next to castle ! Also went to Santa Cristina beach at Lloret next to botanical gardens. Absolutely beautiful- crystal clear water , less crowded, very fine gravel - but a few jellyfish. Tossa tour jeep great. Want to find somewhere else similar to Tossa for next year . Any suggestions ?

Just to jump on this thread. Would the town be ok for exploring with a buggy/10 month old as I think the streets are cobbled?

I can’t really remember ! I think the there were some steep cobbled streets I the old part but along the main road it was less steep .
