Why can I not get an infant car seat in a private hire in Spain?

Booked an aire b and b now trying to sort transport the hire companies only have forward facing seats of over 9kg I will have a 6 month old a 3 year old and 4 year old who are all rear facing at home I can suck up the older one going FF for a short journey although wouldn't feel good about it but I cannot put a 6 month old in a seat that does not fit him
What do people do, just take their own seat ? Faff but will do it if that's the only option

Older 2 go in the forward facing seats available. Is it malaga airport? There are rental options if don't want to bring.

Most people take their own car seats. The airline will carry it free of charge. You just drop it off at the gate, or the door of the plane.

Hire car companies will charge an arm and a leg for seats, and that’s if they have them. I remember it being the same price as buying a new seat!

Went to a different European country when ds1 was tiny and didn't want to take our car seat in case it got bashed about in transit. The pushchair travel system came with a cheaper one that I didn't like for everyday use, so we took that one. Can you take a cheap alternative to your usual one?

mrssunshinexxx · 23/08/2024 07:22

@SaveMeFromMyBoobs no it's reus
Yes that could be an option for them but I'd really prefer them RF

@samarrange I think this is what I'm going to have to do I might just take our car seat and pram wheels as they clip on and just use that for the week as pram for the 10 min walk to a restaurant on an evening he wouldn't be in there long and would be way past the recommended of only leaving them in there for 30mins

@Radiatorvalves they are 6 euro each

@SprigatitoYouAndIKnow I wonder if I could take it on the plane and put in hold all as I worry about that getting thrown around would rather not buy another seat just for holiday

Argh why can't everywhere be hot on car seat safety

We did have a rear facing seat in Portugal from the hire Co for our 9 month old but to be honest, I’d never use a hire one again. They’re battered to hell, old, filthy and you’ve no idea what’s happened to them with previous users. Take some with you if you can.

SnapdragonToadflax · 23/08/2024 07:45

We borrowed one from a friend. It was a massive faff to carry but worth it when you see the seats the rental places carry 😬

This year we just requested a booster seat for our five year old, and we ended up having to drive 10 minutes up the road (without the booster) to meet up with another hire car who was carrying their only booster seat. Without it the seatbelt was basically across his face unless I held it down in a safer position.

We’ve taken our own in the past. Easyjet don’t charge nor do most airlines.
certainly see a lot coming through on the conveyor the other end
