We are looking for a break away during the christmas school holidays, and both of these are easily accessible from Cyprus where we are living at the moment. Have a DD age 6 and a sailing mad HB to consider. Any advice tips or suggestions please

sharm al sheikh is wonderful

Sharm is fabulous for diving, if you're into that? From my recall, a fairly lively town, but very friendly, but I would suspect not loads to do for kids (other than pools/water)

sunnylabsmum · 20/04/2008 09:36

thanks for this info very useful. DD is very self reliant (only child syndrom perhaps) and water/pool would suit her just fine. DH is more a fan of on top of water rather than under it IYSWIM. Any ideas of weather around end of Dec? In cyprus its warmish but not quite shorts weather and this is what we are hoping to get to and wonder how far we will need to travel

Dubai is one big building site at the moment....lovely hotels but views of cranes just about everywhere (great for small boys who are Cranky from Thomas fans though!)

I can't say I noticed the cranes and building sites when I stayed at Jumeira Beach last October. From my suite I had a view of the harbour, the private beach, the Burg and the water park....

I know you didn't ask about Oman, but it is LOVELY..... more reliable weather in December...

Would definately go for Sharm over Dubai - have to say I was a little disappointed with Dubai, plus if your sailing the sea is much better in Sharm.
