As above, would love some recommendations for Playa Blanca, seems to be lots getting 3.5/4 on Trip advisor.. Hard to distinguish and nice to get a recommendation. DC are 9 and 12. TIA.

H10 Lanzarote Princess is my usual go to but I'd also recommend Hotel THB Tropical Island

I've added what I consider the best family restaurants, all within kid friendly walking distance of both hotels.
*Lani's at the Rubicon marina
*Café Berrugo if you want a really nice coffee
*Restaurante Brisa Marina does incredible seafood and the service is great.
*Restaurante Grill Volcan De Timanfaya if you're a steak fan.

What is it you are looking for? Accommodation, restaurants or activities?

We stayed in a small villa there, which might suit:

They can be booked direct, on booking.com or via all the usual package operators.

There's a supermarket and bakery about 2 minutes walk away and they're also close to restaurants, the marina and beach.

@Pineappleprep I’m keen on Tropical island due to the football club but the reviews are terrible! What is your experience?

mikado1 · 22/08/2024 08:22

Oh thank you both, really appreciate that.

I was looking for recommendations on accommodation primarily but restaurant and activities recommendations also brilliant.

We have stayed a few times at the Iberostar Selection Lanzarote Park. Superb hotel on the seafront. The food there was so good we never ate out except for lunch.

TokyoSushi · 22/08/2024 13:20

We've stayed at the THB Tropical Island, pools are ace, rooms really nice, food is more canteen than restaurant and the big dome for entertainment is a bit odd, but an excellent more reasonably priced choice, we'd go back. For a bit more luxe, the H10's and Elba looked lovely.

TwigTheWonderKid · 22/08/2024 13:32

We love Hotel Volcan. We've been many times since our boys were 3 and 7. The pools are lovely and it's right by the marina but it's not a child-centric and there's no sports pitches etc. But our boys have always felt happier hanging out with us and spend hours in the pool.

We also stayed at the Iberostar one year. It's not as nice as the Volcan, though the food was better, and we did enjoy it. They have a tennis court and a basket ball court and petanque and a kids' pool with a couple of slides. It's also right on a little but nicely sheltered beach where you can drop bread in the water and feed the fish.

Excellent tapas to be had at Restaurante la Cuadra.

Would also recommend chartering Alex Sailing for a fab and very cheap sail.

Great tips. Thanks both again. Apparently Elba smells of sewage.... 😔

I stayed at the Elba before COVID and wouldn't recommend. Don't remember any sewage smell particularly, but we had a recurring issue with under cooked chicken in both the buffet and one of the a la carte restaurants. (Ie actually still raw inside).

The food wasn't great full stop, we ended up eating out most evenings, even though we were half board, because it was worth spending extra just to get food we enjoyed!

The H10 Lanzarote Princess is lovely. Rooms a bit worn but we like having a separate living area for kids to sleep in. The kids club was good but perhaps not for older children. The AI was excellent and the lobby bar area was nice.
However, we went in April and the pool was freezing. For that reason we wouldn’t return as the kids were hardly in the pool. Not a problem if you’re going in the Summer. I’m currently looking at the Iberostar for the heated pools at Easter!

12345mummy · 02/09/2024 16:02

To add - I’ve also looked at H10 Rubicon but can’t work out if pools are heated and I did read one review saying they were cold there too. The Princess Yaiza looked fab but more expensive. Iberostar always have lots going on entertainment wise and excellent food. Plus right next to the beach.

jellycatandkittens · 02/09/2024 16:36

We've stayed at the Tui Flamingo Beach a few times and I'd love to go back.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 02/09/2024 16:48

LOVED the Iberostar, fantastic hotel.

sniffydog · 02/09/2024 16:59

Useful one we stayed at when the kids were...kids https://www.booking.com/Share-IPBJl4 the hotel is nice - 2 heated pools, mini golf etc gardens easy to walk around, restaurant was OK. The big plus is they have 3-4 bedroom villas as part of the complex. Not as fancy as some hotels but you get a proper villa with a little more privacy but all the hotel facilities.

Other tips having just been again this Easter:

  • Playa Dorada is the pick of the beaches, Flamingo is nice too. The 'town' beach is very small but protected from the wind if there's a stiff breeze in the afternoon.
  • Brisa Marina right on the town beach is the best Spanish/Canarian food in the town. Ristorante Italiano Luna Rossa near the Rubicon Palace has surprisingly good Italian
  • Parking is a sometimes tricky in the town centre but there's a big, free carpark by the port then a lovely walk along the boulevard into the centre. But for shopping the bigger Hiperdino has a (paid) carpark underneath.
  • For trips the one to the volcano with the bus tour through it is great. Famara beach good for waves.

Hope that helps.

Help! Which property is best?

I found these great hotels on Booking.com and love them all. Help me decide which one to book!

I’ve also looked at H10 Rubicon but can’t work out if pools are heated and I did read one review saying they were cold there too

We stayed at the H10 Rubicon in March a couple of years ago. One pool was heated, just enough that I could get in it - but it was still on the chillier side for me. But all the kids didn't have any problems, and were in and out of it all day. The main, much larger, pool wasn't heated and remained empty all week.

peepsypops · 02/09/2024 17:45

Princesa Yaiza is fabulous - have been multiple times and would return in a heartbeat.

12345mummy · 02/09/2024 19:17

Very useful to know thank you - meant to add in the quote re: H10 Rubicon!

YouLookLikeStevieNicks · 02/09/2024 19:19

The H10s are great

sidsgranny · 02/09/2024 19:31

We've stayed at the Princess Yaiza and the Volcan. The Volcan is a bit of a walk into the main part of Playa Blanca but opens right out onto the Marina which is lovely. The Yaiza is lovely and more central but one of the pools is seawater.
