I'd go to Nakmise-Dori market in Asakusa (it can get really busy though) and the Senso-Ji temple there, great for shopping and eating.

Really liked the vibe of Shibuya in the evening, and nearby Harajuku is a cool fashion district.

If you have a favourite pet, you can get them crafted in coffee at Hat Coffee Latte!

Look at the Tokyo map and see what is closer to where you are staying, do them first thing in the morning.

Borderless team lab can be done first thing in the morning .
Ginza / Shibuya/ Shinjuku can be done in the evening as the shops are open till late and is better when the lights are on.
One tall tower to see Tokyo skyline - Government metropolitan building is free but closed on certain days. Sky tree is higher and best during sunset, book early.
Morí tower is another option and is closer to Team lab borderless so can combine both.
Sensoji temple - again can be seen early in the morning. Different atmosphere when the shops open and at night.

Every single flavour of Kit Kat there is

ProfessorLayton1 · 22/08/2024 01:12

Book a Japanese tea ceremony if you are interested. There are lots near Sensoji temple so can combine visit to the temple and this.

Is this a three day stop in Tokyo as part of a longer trip to Japan? Or on the way to another country? I think that changes my answer.

If it’s your whole time in Japan then I’d do a day trip out of the city for one day. If you get good, clear weather then I’d recommend Kamakura for some wonderful temples and a great view of Fuji from the lookout spots by the beach. I’d also focus on Japanese food spots if this was my whole visit to Japan. My favourite Japanese foods are okonomiyaki, miso ramen, takoyaki, tonkatsu and gyukatsu.

If you’re going to be spending time elsewhere in Japan then I’d just spend all three days in the city. I’d also be more inclined to eat at a character cafe (we went to the peanuts one on our last trip) and try a kaitenzushi like Kura or Uobei if I knew I had plenty of time to try other things elsewhere. Takoyaki and okonomiyaki are Kansai specialties so easier to get there anyway.

You just need to make sure you group the things you want to see geographically. Tokyo is significantly bigger and less centralised than London so with only 3 days you need to make sure you aren’t pointlessly cross-crossing the city constantly.

TravellingSpoon · 22/08/2024 07:29

Get your fortune at the Sensoji temple and eat ramen at the Asakusa market.

Akihabara if you are fans of Pokémon. We also did the owl cafe there which was brilliant, and the most amazing experience with Marikart, where you take out go karts onto the streets of Tokyo. It was a great way to see the city and the guide stops at points so you can take photographs. It was so much fun but also really bloody scary.

Tokyo Tower.

Don't bother with the Robot Cafe, we were a bit underwhelmed but maybe because I thought It would be a cafe where robots served you food. Instead of was a robot show which was good but if you only have three days I wouldn't waste the time.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 22/08/2024 07:31

The Elvis/rockabilly dancers in Yoyogi park (if you’re there on a Sunday). Good fun, especially if you join in. Just by Harajuku.

And Yoyogi Park itself is wonderful, especially the shrines. And the highest concentration of dogs in prams I’d seen.

Takoneko · 22/08/2024 07:55

@TravellingSpoon The robot cafe shut down during the pandemic. I think it’s been replaced with some sort of samurai or ninja dinner and show thing. I’ve never been to either one so can’t really comment on whether it’s worth doing. They don’t really appeal to me.

SaintHonoria · 22/08/2024 08:03

Thats the cafe we went to. We were all adults in our 30s but still really enjoyed it. The food was really nice, the atmosphere was chilled and the prices weren’t unreasonable.

Ah okay, we went in 2019 and it was the only thing I was a bit meh about.
