Perfect child free 4 day break with sun & food

Does it exist? Help! Need some inspiration!

We want to go away on a short but sweet honeymoon in late September. 4 days is the longest we can get someone to look after the wee ones. Flying from London or Bristol.

  • The food & drink should be TOP (Italy/Spain/France I reckon)
  • NOT a big city, want a nice, easy, relaxed break without doing too much apart from eating and drinking and a bit of walking
  • Short break so not too much travelling around, can rent car if needed but no huge journeys

Please give me ideas, specific places, hotels, farm stays, restaurants?

Also heard lots of good things about Porto and San Sebastián in terms of food/drink

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 11:42

Santa Elulia, Ibiza

I know you’ve said no to big city but Barcelona would tick your other boxes and some fab hotels and great food, sunshine etc

budgiegirl · 20/08/2024 15:27

Cuitadella, Menorca. Large town rather than a city, but lovely marina with bars and restaurants, shops, a few 'tourist' things to do in town. Some fab walks along the headland to beaches, or easy to go a bit further afield by bus.

If this is a bit too small, Palma in Majorca is bigger.

San Sebastián 100% - perfect for 4 days eating and drinking.

Disasterclass · 20/08/2024 15:40

Genoa? Only went once for a day, but it was beautiful and chilled and great food

Florence or Sienna in Italy
malaga
Lisbon - there’s also a beach not far from the centre at Cascais. You’d want to stay right in the centre if you can - by Praca de Comercio, somewhere like the Pousado Lisboa. You can eat out really well there. A little trip out to Belem for a Portuguese custard tart. Ubers everywhere and so cheap.

Lovetotravel123 · 20/08/2024 15:57

Malaga, or a couple of days there and then move on to Cordoba.

Seville or Naples

TakeMe2Insanity · 20/08/2024 16:14

Won’t this be full of children though? I wouldn’t want a family hotel if I was child free.

I'd head to the Italian Lakes.

Lake Como has great towns, great food, easily accessed by foot and boats.

Depending on the hotel, you sometimes have a bit of a walk up a hill to get there - but would tick all of your boxes.

Ortigia Sicily. Am here now. It's wonderful

Agreed. Lovely place and some fab restaurants.

Ooooooo I love all these suggestions - thank you! We’ve been to San Sebastián and absolutely loved it - would go again!

Italian lakes eg Como look dreamy but are they too posh/touristy - we like places which feel like their own place not just fancy holiday destination - prefer local resto over Michelin if that makes sense.

Barcelona and Lisbon great suggestions too, not been since I was much younger and not with husband!

most of the suggestions here are great.

second Como, Malaga, Florence, Lisbon and Palma

Also, Budapest, Valencia, Palermo and Granada are all truly wonderful.

grizzlygrump · 20/08/2024 21:51

Florence getting some love and Tuscan food can’t really be beaten can it - staying in the city or somewhere in the area? Never been!

What about here? Florence and a room with a view...

Taormina, Sicily- great restaurants, bars and chic - they hold the Italian film awards there and apparently a very famous footballer brushed against me (no idea who he is but 2 young Italian ladies went giddy that I touched him)

Positivenancy · 20/08/2024 22:04

Florence! Hands down…best option

mitogoshi · 20/08/2024 22:04

If you want classy but local feel look at liena on lake como, just a village really but on train line. I stayed at liena castle (find via instagram as no longer on booking.com it really overlooks the lake

AdaColeman · 20/08/2024 22:23

Varenna on Lake Como, a much quieter, more traditional town than glamorous Bellagio. Plenty of restaurants and small hotels, wonderful botanic garden, get the ferry for trips around the lake, not too far from Milan.....
