Half term for a family of 5

Help! I’m usually terrible at booking holidays - stingy, don’t prioritise it, and frankly find holiday research so dull, so leave it til the last minute - but typically we do UK caravans and lodges or (occasionally) Northern European (France, Holland, euro camp type stuff) with a ferry self catering.

However we’ve had a crap summer, with no holiday due to all sorts of scary health issues, and would like to do something nice for October half term. Torn between taking the kids (three of them age 6-12) somewhere cultural (Barcelona? Although pre children I’ve been several times before) or doing a resort type holiday where we might all have a long needed chance to relax (but is that straightforward as a family of 5 where everything is designed for families of 4).

Any thoughts/recommendations? £5k would be more than I’ve ever spent on a holiday before but could stretch more than that for the right idea. Southern England or London flights, but open to ferry/tunnel/whatever. I don’t really know where to start…

Would they like somewhere different like the Isles of Scilly?

Cyprus? Ancient ruins, a divided city with UN checks, painted Orthodox churches?

We did it in October and had a mix of weather but a great time exploring.

We went to grand Canaria with jet2 last year and they cater for families of 5

all inclusive to the canaries - no brainer, pick somewhere with a good pool and activities, everyone gets to relax and enjoy some sunshine! There’s options within your budget on jet2 if I’ve looked at the right week for half term.

If you want a proper holiday with sunshine you'll need to go to southern/eastern Europe or the Canaries in October. I've been to Cyprus twice and had one amazing week of 28 degrees and another where the weather was more mixed. There are some nice hotels in and around Paphos, if you can find a week for 5 people for £5k. I'd have a look on Tui, as they have a huge selection and you can quickly get an idea of prices.

How about Turkey? Near Ephesus for a bit of culture, and book a hotel with a nice pool and close to the beach.

Canary Islands will have good weather and plenty to do for day trips.

Cyprus also would still be warm in October
