Has anyone ever decided where to go on holiday at the airport?

I have a weird fantasy about one day turning up at an airport and just deciding to book a flight that day on a whim.

Has anyone ever done it?

My fantasy is to do a Shirley Valentine.

Not in the leaving my husband and having an affair with a Greek waiter’ kind of way, but when the coach turns up to take you to the airport to just go ‘nope. Not going home. Having too much of a good time so I’m going to stay for another week’.

in reality there are so many reasons why I can’t do this for the foreseeable future.. but I will, one day before I die… 😉

Used to regularly book holidays for next day departure on Teletext in the 90's and early noughties. Our record was booking at 4pm on Friday for 7am departure from Manchester airport next morning. (And that was an awesome holiday 🙂)

30 years ago maybe but no advantage these days -

I did staff travel a few times turning up at the ticket desk and seeing which flight had the most seats that we could standby on. but its a different world now

Pretty much yes. During Covid I went to my home country and did a test on arrival. Since my family were not around for a few more days, I decided that if the test is negative I am going on holiday. It was, so I looked on my phone where is the earliest possible flight that day going and it was going to Santorini. I booked on my phone and was at the airport half an hour later.
