Best city break for end of August

Where would be the best place to go for the end of August? Currently looking at Venice, Florence and Seville. According to average temperatures, Venice would be the coolest.
Any recommendations or other suggestions?

It depends what you're like with heat really. I loved Seville but it will be hot in August.
Not been to Florence.
Venice in summer I've been told is a bad idea because the heat makes the canals smell?!
I would be heading north personally, Bruges/Cologne/Berlin/Amsterdam?

Seville will be far too hot in August. We're just back from Berlin and that was roasting too. I would go somewhere by the sea rather than inland, so at least there's the chance of a breeze. So from your list, Venice - not sure about stinky canals. Or Nice? Valencia? Trieste?
