Rhodes anyone? Where to stay?

Has anyone been to Rhodes. Looking to go away September/ October and don't want a resort. Is it best to get hotel or airbnb or any other ideas?

Ideally want to stay near the Rhodes Town.

I’ve been to Rhodes and plan to return one day. Stayed in Ixia the last time. That’s not too far from Rhodes Town and is walkable although we tended to get taxis or a bus. I think if I were staying in Rhodes Town I’d probably go for one of the hotels near Mandraki harbour - it’s a really nice part and the old town isn’t too far to walk to.
Quite a lot of hotels around that are just hotels and not resort hotels. The hotel I stayed in had self-catered apartments - might be worth looking into that? You’ve got the best of both worlds in my opinion because you can still eat at the hotel if you want to or get your own food and eat in the apartment,

I didn’t like Faliraki as much but can appreciate others do/would. Stayed in Lindos the first time, which I liked. That was how I got to discover what I think is the best beach in Rhodes - Tsampika (Tsambika).

It’s not Rhodes town but have a look at Lindos. It’s an absolutely beautiful town with a beach and an acropolis on top of a hill. If you can get accommodation there you’ll have a great time.
