Carvoeiro, Algarve

We head to the Algarve this week, our first ever trip to Portugal. We are self catering in Carvoeiro. We’ve already booked a trip to Silves and Monchique and a boat trip from Ferragudo to hopefully see dolphins. Looking for any other must-dos and restaurant recommendations please from those that know this part of the Algarve. Kids are 14 & 11. Very excited - Carvoeiro looks fab!

You can't NOT go to Slide and Splash, the waterpark. It's top-notch! In fact, wait for me, I want to come too!

We stayed there in July. Loved it. Our favourite restaurants were Cafe Fino for breakfast/brunch and Happys for dinner. Definitely need to book Happys.

We did a boat trip from Portimao to Bengali Caves. The boardwalk at Algar Seco is lovely and there is a bar restaurant there called Boneca Bar but we didn't go in. It's popular.

The best beach we went to was Carvalho.. once you go down steps you walk through a tunnel to get to the beach.

If you fancy a bit of paddle boarding they do it at Praia Grande near Ferragudo. It's in a bay so sea very calm. There is also a nice restaurant there called Kalu which does very good burgers and salads if you fancy a bit of lunch the.

Think the end of Summer party is on the 24th August, so nice to be in the village for that. There will be lots of children around as it is a very family centric place.

If your children are sporty you could try padel tennis at the Carvoeiro tennis club or pickleball at Rocha Brava. I'd book early in the day times to avoid over heating.

Lots of lovely restaurants in and around Carvoeiro so depends where you are staying and what you like. Ubers are very cheap.

Strangely I’d been looking at Kalu just this morning and I think we’ll go there for lunch after our Dolphin trip! Do you need to make a reservation?

I think I would at this time of year to be sure you can get in. It's a nice menu, lovely location and reasonable prices roo.
