How to relax about spending money on holiday?

We've never really had much money, and we are generally quite frugal. Due to promotions we now earn a decent wage.

Previously, when we went on holiday, we'd not rent sun loungers on the beach. We'd take a packed sandwich made from things from lidl, and try and cook in.

This year we have saved up a decent amount beyond what we have allotted for savings. So I'd like to relax a bit and rent a sun lounger if I fancy one. Go out for lunch at a little restaurant. Eat out in the dinner. Have a cocktail. Buy a souvenir. Do a day trip.

After years of travelling on a tight budget, how do you learn to relax about spending?

If you've saved the money, allocate in some way as "holiday spends". That way, it's accounted for already, a sunk cost, gone.

I think key is to start small and not go too “wild” at once I guess! So one day do x then next day y but small changes that will make you feel better. Set a budget and last day spend all that on gifts etc.

I agree about allocating it so it’s a sunk cost - give yourself a daily budget so you are giving yourself permission to spend it! Or possibly an all inclusive holiday which would cost more up front but then has everything included? Either way, Have a lovely time!

We take an allocated amount of money on holiday when we go abroad. We know what we can spend on a daily basis and each evening we count our cash!! It sounds a bit sad, but we want to enjoy our holiday and sometimes it’s hard to know what things may cost until you actually arrive.
If I were on a beach holiday Id absolutely pay for a sun lounger if there were no free ones to be had! We tend to have a big breakfast so dont need a big lunch.

I quite like to change the money to Euros or whatever the currency is. Then I might as well spend it, as that is the budget. Sometimes I get DH to pay a bill as he minds less.
