To all those people who left recommendations for my trip to Paris. We came back yesterday and had the most wonderful 4 days.

I'm so darned impressed with the Eurostar and now I've tried it first class, I'm not sure there is any other way to travel!

We spent the first afternoon there wandering around Ile de la Cite and Ile St Louis, then to La Marais and around the outside of Le Louvre - it was a bit late and the cues were a bit long to go in but the grounds were stunning enough. We ate in a little place in St Germain de Pres and went back to the hotel after that. After all the organised tour bits the next day, we found Chartier. Thankyou so much to the people that told me about that place - it was so lovely, we went back the second night although I'm glad we ate early both times as the queues were out the ally by the time we left. Yesterday morning we found an hour to the marjket at Mouffetard which we really enjoyed - it was more of the village Paris that is missing from all the huge buildings, boulevards, squares and the tourist attractions. It was the perfect way tpo round off our trip - outside a cafe watching the word go by.

Can't wait to go back again but may have to as I'm not sure we can afford it again for quite a while.

Was that with or without dcs?

Would love to go for a few days this year - esp as Eurostar going from St Pancras now - so much handier for us...

Without! They were with my parents who bought us the trip as a Christmas present. I feel so spoilt! It was with a company who do coach tours but we still had time to explore ourselves and the hotel was lovely.

Glad to hear it was a success Cadbury and that you found Chartier.

I first found Chartier when I was inter-railing. And then when I first started going out with DH, I dragged him round the streets saying i KNOW its near here somewhere! Then we went back about 6 years later with ds1.

Its great isn't it. I went there determined to speak (very poor considering thw ammount of time I spent studying it) french and the staff were very patient and kind and then spoke back to me in English! lol. We swapped languages. The food was perfect and half the price of the place we'd been fleeced in on the first night. It was the decor that I really warmed to - I will be going back . . . . someday.
