Any airline staff to advise please?

I booked flights from UK to Melbourne this week with Qatar airlines. I used a 3rd party agent (which I regret now). Booked flights on Tuesday this week. I noticed today that on the documents my first name has been slightly misspelt with 1 L and not 2 Ls. So doesn't exactly match my passport. I contacted the agent and they are asking £223 to correct the one digit! I am unable to correct direct with Qatar. Does anybody work for an international airline? Is this likely to be a problem if I just leave it.

I don’t work for an international airline but I travel way too frequently to have learnt that yes, names on tickets need to match names on passport.

Middle names, second surnames… can be left off. But you need to enter the country with the name and document you give to the airline. Are you entering Australia on a visa / visa exemption document? I’d be worried about that, not the flight itself.

You might be allowed to fly, but you don’t want to be turned away at the border.

Who made the error?

You are unlikely to get through security at your departure airport if your boarding pass doesnt exactly match your passport.

I would call Qatar customer service directly and ask what they advise you do since the agent wont correct their own mistake (I am assuming you spelled it correctly to the agent, either verbally or on an email/form).

Additionally call the agent back and ask them to retrieve their recording of your phone call or email/form to confirm it is their mistake and you expect them to correct it for free. Dont let them suck you into ‘its a change of name and therefore there is a charge’ conversation. They are correcting their own mistake, not providing you with an additional service

I believe it was the agent (they are saying not) but I can't prove it. I booked using the online platform and they are saying they took the details from this. However, in other correspondence they have spelt my name correctly. Mistakes happen but 223 for 1 digit is outrageous

There should be an automated email for that, otherwise ask them to send you the form so you can see whose mistake it was.
