Montenegro or Croatia

We should have been going to Lake Garda in 2020, but it was obviously cancelled, we rearranged for the next two years, but flights were cancelled on both occasions.
We were looking to go again for next year, but it has gone so expensive!
I have now started looking at Croatia, but have just came across Montenegro, where have people stayed in Montenegro? We will have a 15 year old with us too.
I've been looking on airbnb and all accommodation looks amazing!

Montenegro and Croatia are so close to each other you could do day trips to visit between the two countries. Montenegro is still a bit cheaper and less crowded…I was actually looking at booking it for next summer for our family too but then I checked the weather and it’s nearly 40 degrees there in August- just to be aware in case you’re planning to go in the summer months.
it does look stunning.

Friend has just come back from MN and said it was very very expensive - glass of wine £10 and food London prices. Also, the tourism infrastructure isn’t very good. She said it was very beautiful but she wouldn’t return.

We did a road trip around Montenegro. We just booked the first and last nights and then just chose where to go on a day to day basis. The mountains are very interesting and a complete contrast to the coastal resorts.

Many thanks for your replies, we will be going next summer due to the holidays I have at work, we did Sorento last summer and that was very hot too.
I'm shocked that it is so expensive to eat out.
A road trip sounds great, I don't think it would suit us at the moment with taking dd with us.

Really, where was she? We went in July and found the food and drink was very reasonable. There were a few exclusive resorts around which were expensive, but that's to be expected when (for example) you have a private marina attached to the hotel!

Infrastructure-wise, tourist boat trips were abundant where we were (Kotor Bay, but not in Kotor itself), but I would recommend hiring a car if you want to explore a bit more. The buses weren't great. However, we found we could get a decent car for 50euro per day (including insurances etc) that covered both Montenegro and Croatia. Would recommend that. Montenegro was very easy to drive around.

It is very hot July & August.

Montenegro if budget is an issue, but that can still be pricey if you are in tourist central around waterfronts

croatia is uk prices for
eating out and drinking, even out in the seaside towns populated by locals.

If you stay in northern Montenegro, it's a very easy drive into Croatia. We stayed in Herceg Novi and Dubrovnik was about 1h30 away on the bus. It'd be easy to do a few days in each if that's what you wanted

weve just come back from Montenegro - I fell in love with the place! Really enjoyed it! We did trips to Kotor, stayed in Herceg Novi. We fitted in a trip to Dubrovnik Croatia on way home. Took a 15 year old who spent a lot of time snorkelling and got to swim in the blue caves.

Will definitely book again.

We had been looking to book a late holiday and the prices for Canary Islands and other places where really expensive we paid a lot less to stay on Montenegro. It’s a beautiful place. Loved the buzz of Herceg Novi in the evening.

Where did you stay in Montenegro? I am keen to visit for a week, but would like to be near the sea
