Orionid Meteor Shower 2024 holiday for seven year old

Hi all,

My 7 year old autistic daughter is very into space and has been asking to watch a meteor shower for years now. We missed the northern lights when they were visible all over the uk and she cried!

I’d love to take her to see the Orionid meteor shower 21/22 October. I don’t drive so it needs to be somewhere accessible on train/bus/taxi, in the north west preferably, and we would need a glamping or b&b place to stay at. Would consider taking her abroad if it’s a planned kids holiday centred around the shower but I can’t seem to find anything online.

If anyone has any experience of planning this kind of trip or if you have seen the meteor showers before in the north west, any advice is very welcome! Thankyou 🤞🏼

Have you got a clear sky forecast tonight where you are? It's the peak of the Perseids meteor shower tonight. Sitting in my garden in N Wales last night I saw one and the night before, 4. But you do need clear skies.

I particularly chose a holiday to Tenerife this year as it's a dark sky region, and you can go up the mountain above the cloud level (so no worry about weather interfering) and see them there in an amazing sky that is clear enough that you can see the Milky Way.

Unfortunately we live in a city, otherwise that would have been amazing! Thankyou for your suggestions and advice 🙂

How city? Is there anywhere where you can see the stars? Tonight is clear and should be good, and tomorrow.
