Is cash still accepted, Portugal?

I will shortly be staying east of Albufeira and I have quite a few euros to take. Is cash still readily accepted? For groceries, restaurants, bars, taxis, beach sports etc. Basically anything that is not booked in advance online.

Yup, regularly go to the Eastern Algarve and always pay in cash.

It is. We always take a certain amount of cash, you never know when you’re out and about there might be small shops that can’t access card readers. Also, something might happen to your card.

We go to the Algarve every year. I'm a card girl, but DH likes to take some cash. It's always been accepted.

Excellent, thank you all

We spend a lot of time out there are there are still a few places that only take cash. Mostly bars. Cash machines nearly all charge unless they are actual bank ones (e.g. millennium bank)so try and keep some cash on you and stock up when you pass a bank!
