Is San Francisco still an attractive place to visit?

I’ve heard from many people recently who have gone to SF (for business and personal) that they really hated it and would actively recommend others not to visit. Reasons include crime, a lot of homelessness and open drug use and a feeling of not being safe.

All people who have told me this live in London so should be used to City life but still had a bad experience.

Any thoughts or recent experiences to share?

My family from the US recently went. They came back to broken windows in the car. Nothing was taken as they did not leave anything. Human feces on the streets so that would make it a no go place for me. Shoplifting and theft is not penalised due to the crime law to the tune of $950.

My DH went 3 years ago (for work) and hated the addiction and homelessness (and cost) so much he came home early.
