Can I buy big tin of dry shampoo in airport shop and take it on the plane?

That's it really. Daft question of the day. If you can only take a 100ml (or less) tin of dry shampoo through security, how come you can buy big ones in the airport shop? Does this mean it's fine to take on board in hand luggage?

Yes you can.

because the stuff you bring in needs to be scanned to make sure it’s not dodgy. The stuff in the shop after security has all been checked I assume.

They wouldn't sell items at the airport uf you can't take them on the plane there would be no point selling them otherwise

Also a top money saving tip: you can have order Boots stuff online and arrange airport collection at the Boots once you're through security, and you pay the online price (not the airport one).
Well you can at the airports I normally fly from, maybe worth double checking

Yes, it’s just a security thing, like liquids.

You can pre-order all your chemist stuff to pick up at the airport boots once you’re through security

Another option would be the solid shampoo (and conditioner) bars as they are exempt from the liquid allowance limit, and also pack smaller

BitOutOfPractice · 10/08/2024 12:25

Oh I’m definitely going to do that ordering thing. It’s genius!

Thank you all!!! The travel size Batiste only seems to only come in one variety, and I need about three different ones to stop my hair looking like a limp dogs ear 😫

How come you can only take a small canister of dry shampoo through security? Doesn't that only apply to liquids? I can get why you wouldn't want to lug a bit one with you but not the security thing . Is it that someone could have taken it apart and tampered with it?

Because it's counted as a liquid just as hairspray would. It's all liquids, gels and pastes that have to be in containers of 100mls or less

dementedpixie · 10/08/2024 17:24

@WinkyTinky if you are checking in luggage then you can pack any size of liquid in there

Punkrockprincess · 10/08/2024 17:27

Just wash your hair?

Just wash your hair?

It's not just for "dirty hair" I use it to help dirty up my hair to style fresh washed hair.

WinkyTinky · 10/08/2024 18:34

@Punkrockprincess Washing my hair creates disaster! Total floppy rubbish until I spray a load of Batiste in there. Day three and four are the only acceptable decent hair days 🙈

Suggest ordering ahead. Last time I flew through Gatwick, Boots only had the standard Batiste and I wanted the volume one.

You can take it on board with your hand luggage because they know it's not been tampered with.

Everything and everyone that goes airside is checked.

But you can't bring it back on your return flight so only buy what you'll use while you're away or happy to leave behind.
