Looking for recommendations for Texel with kids

We've booked a week on Texel (Netherlands) for later this month and I'm beginning to think about what we'll do while we're there. The kids are 7 and 10. Does anyone have any specific recommendations? Or tips for visiting the area generally?

It looks fairly low-key but I'd like to have a few ideas for activities in mind before we arrive.

The Netherlands has the most marvellous tasty junk food, mostly deep-fried. Broodje kroket is a large meat ragout croquette in a bun. Try all the different sauces for chips: mayonnaise, peanut sauce, joppiesaus, etc. Not terribly healthy but you're on holiday. Also try the pancakes, which are the size of pizzas - the classic topping is bacon with maple-type syrup.

That all sounds amazing :-)

Texel is brilliant! We visited for a few days as part of a longer trip to the Netherlands. The beaches are wonderful. I’m sure you’ll have this on your itinerary anyway but the Eco Mare sea life place is good (they rescue seals and you can see them at feeding time). Also there’s a dairy place with a big play area that does amazing ice cream. The lighthouse is fun to climb. A couple of museums in Oudeschild (I think that’s what it was called). The island is pretty small though so you can drive round the whole thing, you won’t miss anything. We didn’t hear any other British voices the whole time we were there which was refreshing, felt like a hidden gem.

Had never heard of Texel before but this looks amazing. Do you mind if I ask how you're getting there OP? Are you combining it with a trip to Amsterdam? Hope you have a brillianttime (Sorry to hijack the thread!)

Thanks @WheelySquirrel this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for.

@MonChoufleur123 We're getting the ferry to Hook of Holland, then driving up to Texel. I don’t think we'll go to Amsterdam too but we do have another few days at a Eurocamp further south after we leave Texel.

Also hijacking the thread OP as we are going to Texel next weekend and it is looking like it's going to be very windy! Wondering what the beaches are like in a strong breeze....

Just wanted to report back that we had a lovely time on Texel and it was just as nice as everyone said it would be. As PPs said, you hear very little English spoken and it really does feel like a hidden gem.

Ah so pleased you had a good time! Hope it wasn’t too windy for the beaches.

It was fairly windy but didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves. Although it might have been nice if it was just a tiny bit warmer.
