Evening everyone

We are on holiday next week in Cornwall. Has anyone done a day trip to isle of scilly? Was it worth the cost?

Thanks all

I'm local and have done it. It's quite cheap if you go on the boat BUT you spend about the same amount of time sailing as on land and the boat has the nickname "the great white stomach pump" for good reason! If money is no object you can fly from Penzance and Newquay I think, but it is very expensive for a family. You get more time there though.

It's a VERY beautiful and special place though. I've been for holidays there too, and it's absolutely brilliant. Worth looking into for a longer stay tbh.

I used to date a guy with a helicopter licence and we rented one and went for the day. It is gorgeous, like the Caribbean

Not sure if you know or if it's a typo, but there are several islands (IsleS of Scilly), and you can do boat trips between them. The Scillonian (boat) and Skybus (plane) take you to the largest island, St. Mary's. I wouldn't venture off it for a day trip as that's more time travelling and it's lovely itself anyway.

I grew up in West Cornwall. I’ve only been to Scilly once, on a school trip. It’s an absolutely incredible place. If you can afford it then do fly as I’m sure it looks incredible from the air. If not, then the Stomach Pump it is!

It's lovely, just beautiful.

Have a look at the sailing timetables, they're governed by the tides so there may be a day on the week you're down when that sailings are at times that give you a better window on the islands than the other days.

Thank you all, this is some good info. We would probably stay on St Mary's for the day.

@PlantDoctor Sorry I was typing whilst getting a toddler to sleep!

I thought you probably did know but just wanted to avoid any confusion!

Checking the tide times suggesting by PP above is a very good idea!
