Flying to the USA with 3 month old first baby - am I being unrealistic

Baby isn't here yet so this is a theoretical question, but we'd need to plan the trip in advance so all feedback welcomed.

I thought we could take 3/4 month old baby to Boston for a relaxing holiday, bit of shopping... Good use of my maternity leave allowance and dh has holiday allowance.

He thinks its a crazy idea to take a new baby so far. I know its possible but need some honest feedback on how realistic an option it is. Or would we be better waiting or sticking to short haul/ driving

best age to take them on a plane esp if you are breastfeeding

dd was 3 mo, and was fine, had a sling with me to keep hands free, and to go to places where you can't have prams.

Best age to take them on a plane, frankly. By the time they get to 6 months plus it's a far scarier prospect. And immigration at Boston is really not too bad, so a good choice of destination too (mmm... I love Boston... )

I don't think the flight itself would be a problem. I wouldn't plan anything though until the baby is born. I had no idea about how having a baby would change my life and how much hard work it could be. There were days after DD1 was born that I could barely get dressed never mind go on a long trip. DD2 was different though and she just slotted into our lives, possibly because she was the second baby, but she had a completely different temeperament to DD1 and just seemed so much easier.

we took our first on an equivalent distance to Canada when she was 3 months old - had to order tickets before she was born (was v odd) and then just called up with her name and then tickets were sent out. she was a dream on the flight - still at stage of sleeping a lot, feeding and sleeping. It was all a novelty for us as well, first child.

I should just add to my previous post that we did take DD1 on a 900 mile round trip car journey when she was 6 weeks old and it was fine, but then in a car you have a bit more freedom to travel at the baby's pace than you do on a transatlantic flight. I'm sure it would be fine.

Depends enormously on the baby. At that age dd was still screaming loudly for 20 hours a day, and I was getting around 2-3 hours sleep in each 24 hours. There is absolutely no way I would have gone on a long trip with her.
