Zakinthos tips away from resorts?

We're thinking of Zakynthos for half term but don't want an AI or resort area. Any tips on nice places to stay, visit?? Things like good places for snorkeling, interesting historical sites etc.

Also wondering whether to split it with a couple of nights on Kafalonia?

Honestly, if you have a choice between the two islands I would personally choose Kefalonia every time. It's feels less busy/resort like and is much prettier.

I do like Zakynthos (I've been 3 times) compared to only the once to Kefalonia but Kefalonia is one of my favourite Greek Islands (and I've been to a few 😎).

That's interesting about Kafalonia, thank you We are heading that way as last year we went to Lefkada and loved the sea so thought we'd explore other places in the same area.

I don't think you can go far wrong with any of the Ionian Islands - they all have their own unique charm and like you say the sea is gorgeous.

Is it October half term you are thinking of going or one of the half terms next year? The only reason I ask is that I would advise caution if you're expecting wall to wall sunshine in the Ionians at the end of October. You might be lucky but alternatively it might also be an idea to consider the Dodecanese islands, such as the likes of Rhodes for that time of year.

That's encouraging!

We are thinking October. We don't need wall to wall sunshine as long as the sea temperature is still warm enough for swimming which it was last year 🤞🤞🤞
