Safety near Gare du Nord in Paris

Hi everyone,

I'm heading to Paris soon and will be staying near Gare du Nord. I've received some advice that this area might not be the safest, especially for women travelling alone.

Has anyone stayed near Gare du Nord or have any insights into safety in this area? Should I be cautious or consider staying somewhere else? I'm open to any recommendations or advice.

Thanks in advance!

i lived in Paris and Gare du Nord is the only place I’ve ever been mugged. It’s not a very nice area so I’d change it if you can. There are plenty of much safer and nicer areas.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I appreciate the heads up and I'll keep your advice in mind and look into other areas that might be safer and more pleasant.

Personally I would change. I visit Paris a lot as my partner lived there until 2020. I would not want to be wandering around that area in the evening/night time just because it's convenient for the station, unless your arrival time is late or your return is early morning.

I have just spent three nights 10 minutes walk from Gare du Nord in a little hotel just off Rue de Lafayette. I walked everywhere - perfectly safe, I was travelling alone.

Ten minutes walk from Gare du Nord is a better bet to stay in than a hotel right by the station. And I agree overall Paris is a safe place for any single person who takes sensible precautions as you would in any major city.

Thanks for your advice! My Eurostar arrives on a Saturday at 5:48 PM and I leave on a Wednesday at 8:42 AM, which is why I was considering staying near Gare du Nord. However, I’ll deffo look into other areas to ensure a safer and more pleasant experience, especially for evenings. I appreciate your input.

Hey OP, I think you'll be safer in Paris than England these days....

Millions of security there at the moment for the Olympics.

Just stay somewhere within walking distance of it, not right next to it.

Have a great holiday.

Thanks for the reassurance! My hotel is within walking distance but not too close, so I’m hopeful that it will work well. I appreciate the advice and your well wishes.
