Hi,
look for some recommendations as we are due to go to Tavira in a couple of weeks and have a 6,5, and 3 year old. I know about the ferry to the beaches with the sun umbrellas. Are there any other beaches around you would recommend. And in case It’s really hot can anyone recommend anything to do in the shade with children. We have a car and are happy to drive a bit.
thanks so much

Hello,
You can get a cab to Praia do Barril, there you have a train thing to the actual beach and there there are bars, restaurants, playgrounds, shops

The science museum is fun for kids your age

The castle is nice and free (not too shady though)

The camera obscura near the castle is fun

if desperate there is a shopping centre / mall not too far from the centre with cinemas etc

you can take the normal train to Olhao - nice town with a great ice cream place by the fish market

Tavira Romana by the roman bridge has great ice cream

(been going to tavira every year for ages)

It's dead east to catch the train from tavira. A little adventure in itself. We went to the water park but would go back and explore further

Fuseta is great for that age as it's a river beach, so no ferry and it's safe for them to swim ( not big waves) also fairly short walk from car park to beach. Parking can be tricky so get there before 10. Best restaurants there as well.
Praia verde beach club pool is good as well. 17euro / adult and half for kids over 4 i think. Family friendly pool but also quite swish.
Altura has very good pizzerias and a bounce park/ fairground rides. This does kick off at 9, but to get the most out of the Algarve in the summer you really do need to keep kids up late, loads of fun stuff happens after dinner here.
