Cruise

Looking to book a cruise for family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children) and my DM too. My dad died in May so it's her first time away on own.

Is there any way we can make it a bit cheaper for her in room on her own? I've tried various options including moving 1 of our children into her room but it always works out the same - basically double the single rate.

You can try Passion for Cruises who advertise cruises with no or reduced single room supplements.

However, what you are finding is the norm. Single travellers get charged nearly double - yes it’s expensive. What you are being charged is the rate for the Cabin.

trust me as a single traveller I know how expensive it is to cruise.

Thanks, will give that a try. Yes I guess we just have to accept as a single traveller she'll have to pay double or nearly double.

We have just booked with Cunard on the Queen Victoria, and there were rooms with 3 beds (one bunk, one single). It could be an option if the adult doesn't mind sharing

Just seen this also says Cunard don't charge more for single travellers

I can verify they do if you want a balcony.

How old are the DC? Some ships have rooms with a bunk (or even two) that pulls down. Maybe if you have a small-ish DD she could sleep with grandma while other DC has the bunk (if there's only one). It could be a fun adventure if they all get on well. (Tell DCs that the bathroom is for grandma only!)

Thanks for the information. That's interesting about Cunard too. We've never been in this single traveller situation so it's all a bit new. Not sure she'd ever travel alone but her & my dad loved their holidays so she does need this.

When I was looking at marella cruises recently, they do show some single cabins on their deck plans
