Travel vaccines for Mexico or Caribbean for 6m old

Hello! I'm exploring the option of travelling to Mexico or the Carribean with our 6-month-old, but I'm a bit lost on the vaccine situation.

They'll have had the routine NHS vaccines by that point, but won't have had others which are suggested for travel to these areas, like Hep A and Typhoid.

Has anyone else travelled with a young baby to these areas? How did you approach vaccines (or am I overthinking the risk?)

Any tips/advice welcome!

Maybe consider not taking a tiny baby somewhere where they don't need extra vaccinations?

We are going later in the year and our baby will be 10 months. We asked the nurse when doing her last vaccines and were told baby would have to have MMR but they can't have it til 9 months old. She looked it up in a on her computer and that's what she came up with so assuming that's all they can have but would call you GP just to double check x

This! Do you have to go to Mexico Caribbean? Why not go somewhere that doesnt involve otherwise unnecessary vaccinations for your tiny baby

We travelled with dd from when she was a baby, including countries in Asia and South America.

It's too long ago to remember which vaccines she had when but the practice nurse at our GP surgery was very helpful.

We didn't go anywhere where she would have been too young for the recommended travel vaccines and we avoided malarial countries for a few years.

6 months old is too young to have any travel vaccines.

Make sure she’s had all her baby imms. MMR can be given early for travel if necessary, but will be discounted if under one and will need repeating with the 1 year imms.

My baby was given the BCG for Cuba at around a week old, but we travel there alot.

Hiya there are certain travel vaccines that will be less necessary for baby than they are for adults and some that are still necessary. Some vaccinations have more side effects in babies and can be dangerous (eg yellow fever) and some have less side effects in babies. Please speak to a baby and children’s travel specialist… ideally before you decide where to go! I do this for a living in NHS and privately at the childrenstraveldoc website
