Efteling theme park plus belgium?

Hello
I've heard great things about Efteling theme park and would like to combine a 2-3 day visit with a longer 10 day trip, perhaps to include Rotterdam, and somewhere in Belgium.

Kids are 9 and 7.

Has anyone gone to Efteling as part of a longer trip? I'd be really grateful for some ideas / itineraries / tips etc.!

What time of year? I live in Belgium and have only been to Efteling for the day. Rotterdam is nice and Leiden is like a mini-Amsterdam with a windmill and canal boat trips. Beaches at Scheveningen and Noordwijk. Duinrell of course! Antwerp is probably my favourite Belgian city (Red Star Line Museum) followed by Ghent (like Bruges with fewer tourists). Brussels has lots of museums and chocolate shops and parks, plus Atomium etc. Ypres is fantastic to visit if interested in the wartime stuff - there are original trenches etc you can visit along side the various cemeteries and memorials. Ostend has a fantastic beach and the Atlantic Wall Museum. Dinant has a cable car. The caves at Han-Sur-Less and animal parks near La Roche en Ardennes. Landal.com has some great sites in Belgium and NL. Roompot.com also. Zeeland is lovely with an accrobranche place and the Neeltje Jans delta park. If you are driving, be aware that many of the big Belgian cities have ULEZ and you need to register your car in advance. Happy to provide some more info aligned on your interests and when you would come.

Historically May and June have always been the nicest months for weather, maybe July also. Not this year though. I've seen snow in April and also been in Limburg (NL) at Easter when it was the hottest place in Europe. It tends to be (huge sandy) beaches to the west, historical cities in the middle and Ardennes and countryside to the east. NL especially is hugely underrated as a holiday destination I think.

Is it near Plopsaland?

MissAmbrosia · 05/08/2024 20:15

Is what near Plopsaland? De Efteling is in NL, so probably 200km I would say, without looking it up.

We just got back from a week staying in the Hague and then Duinrell, which was great fun. I like the coast, so enjoyed having that in the Hague too. Some people did Duinrell and Efteling, although that's probably too much theme park for one holiday for my tastes! The Hague is easily accessible from Rotterdam. We enjoyed the minature village/theme park there (Madurodam), the beach and the Escher gallery. There is also the Lego Discovery Centre and the Science Museum in Delft, although we didn't visit these.

Efteling is on my list for a future holiday, again combined with somewhere, so reading suggestions on this thread.

Have a look at Beekse Bergen!

@47andahalf

Is your plan to stay In Efteling? We have stayed twice on spring one winter. The accommodation is also great with some really nice touches you will love it.

We also went to plopsa land du panne and Bellewaerde park this year in Belgium my boys loved both 8&5. We went for the week and did plopsa water park too. We would definitely go back. Considering Tova land for next year.

I’d second Beekse Bergen, it’s v close to Efteling. We did both and a few days in Amsterdam

We did a shorter trip but 2 days in Eftling then Ghent on the way there and back. We did have a 3rd day pass for Eftling but took a family vote and decided Ghent was so nice we'd rather spend the 3rd day there than another day at Eftling.
That's nothing against Eftling, it's an amazing, magical place that we'd all like to go back to but in 2 days we'd done everything we wanted to do/see.
Ghent castle has an awesome recorded tour with comedy commentary, boat trip and just wandering about and eating waffles.
We did Duinrell on a different trip, combined it with Amsterdam. While it was ok, it wasn't a patch on Eftling.
Both trips kids (3 kids) were about 10-15 ish
