Italians/Italy Lovers, help! Ferragosto!

I arrive in Pisa on Aug 15th Ferragosto. I had no idea this was a big Italian holiday!

Never been to Italy before. I'm staying in Lucca. Does anyone know if things will be open/what to expect? We leave 20th Aug.

I'm also terrified of the current heatwave 🥲 a heatwave with no shops open will be tough!

Lastly, looking for advice on transport. Will the trains run on Ferragosto? I planned to get Pisa mover to Pisa Centrale then Pisa Centrale to Lucca.

The trains will run a Sunday service, which is probably still pretty good. Restaurants and tourists shops are not going to close in Pisa for a public holiday. You might not find the kind of supermarket that has a fish counter open, if you were thinking of doing a week's shopping, but it's not going to be quiet as the grave.

Lucca is a beautiful city, you will love it.

Yes, Lucca’s lovely - I prefer it to Pisa tbh.

We travelled to Lake Garda on Ferragusta a couple of years ago. Everything was open. I imagine it’s different in the smaller non touristy areas.

Lucca is soooo lovely. Things will be open in the centre. There will be some trains going. It will be hot, just be sensible though and take everything slowly and you will be fine!
