Where to visit in Western Germany?

Myself, DH and our three DS's (ages 6 to 11) are going to Lommel in Northern Belgium and are looking at visiting Germany for the day. We'd be happy driving up to two hours away, possibly three.

DH and I have been to Cologne a couple of times which was lovely (but was pre children) so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for either things to do in Cologne with children, or recommendations for any other cities in the west of Germany to visit please.

Thank you :)

The Lindt chocolate museum in Cologne is well worth visiting, and my dc loved Phantasialand just outside Cologne.

Aachen is well worth a visit and just a few miles away is the Dutch town of Vaals with the Drielandenpunt, the "three-country point" where Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands meet. There's an observation tower with great views into all three countries.

Cologne zoo is fabulous. So many elephants. Personally I rate it much higher than the chocolate museum.

I came on to say Aachen and Drielandenpunt, but I've been beaten to it 🤣

The views from the observation tower are fabulous, and there's a great play area close by (Labyrinth I think it's called).

A visit to Maastricht is also a good shout 👌🏻

Drielandenpunkt as mentioned. Monschau is lovely - but get there early for parking. Cologne Zoo and the cable car over the Rhein. Boat trip also.
