Holiday to remember with teens

Both DH and I have big birthdays approaching and would like to mark the.occasion with a big holiday with our teenage kids.

Not keen on AI but equally we like a bit of comfort (no camping!). Had considered Costa Rica but it looks £££. Not sure on budget yet, that said. We go to Europe every year so are looking a bit further afield.

I like the idea of seeing interesting wildlife but am petrified of snakes.and similar (can cope with little Mediterranean type lizards). DH is coeliac which can be more complicated, but we both speak pretty good Spanish. Must be in the summer holidays due to kids' exams looming. Kids keen on beach sports, kayaking etc. Don't mind a bit of rain mixed in with hot weather.

Any recommendations, wise travellers of MN??

We were looking at CR for next summer with our 2 teens was well OP. The prices were so expensive as they were being priced as adults. Even planning and booking independently I was struggling to get 2 weeks with everything that I wanted at a standard I wanted for less than £12K.
So, instead I've booked Bali and Komodo. Singapore stop off, then a few days in the jungle in Bali, 5 days on a lovely yacht around around Komodo Nat. Park and Lombok and back to Bali for a flop on the beach. Came in at £8K and prices there are very cheap (or so Ive been told!)

Norway is really expensive! Sweden a bit better.

Holiday with teens - Peru worked well for us. Ecuador and Galapagos was best ever. DDs liked Alaska cruise too. Depends what you want to sons. Yacht in BVIs was a winner too.

How much was your Galapagos trip? It's my dream to take my DCs there but it was £££ when I went 20yrs ago so I dread to think how much it would cost now!

If you're considering the US road trip, I'd really recommend Texas. My husband and I did it pre-kids but I think it would be really teen friendly. We did Dallas (not much really to see but huge shopping malls and we came across the Texas state fair by accident), picked up a cool hire car, spent a couple of days each in San Antonio, Austin, at a dude ranch and in Galveston. Did things like NASA, sports games, etc. it was really memorable, possibly more so than our honeymoon road trip in California (which was also amazing!). I do fancy Canada though - when my kids are older.

Thanks again everyone and good luck @user8800 I feel your pain, teens are tricky beasts when it comes to anything holidays.

Thank you
I feel quite deflated about it all
We usually do a couple of UK breaks for a week, and then partner and dc go off on a 3 day European trip, but they haven't done that since covid
The flight delay really didn't help and we were all very tired and cranky
It was also very hot which didn't help
I assume the best time to go to new England is september/October?
How are summers in iceland?

Very successful road trip San Francisco Yosemite Vegas Utah National parks Arizona with loads of activities but was £££.
Alternative suggestion I know it's Europe but the best holiday we ever had with our teens was Green World Holidays activity week in Croatia, fabulous mix of activities and relax with other families with kids similar age, it was amazing!

@Lordofmyflies can you share details of the yacht off Komodo?
And @HedgingWithASledgehog can you share your Thailand itinerary?
I'm between Thailand and Indonesia for next summer!

Thailand (possibly Cambodia / Vietnam). We priced it up - but for various reasons we couldn't make it work due to time constraints etc but echo a previous poster - we are now going to Turkey for one week which is costing the same as the 17 day trip I'd planned to Asia (with lots of activities) but essentially will be a nice beach holiday that we've done lots of time before 😞

We are just back from Bangkok and Chang mai then a few days at the coast. Weather was hot and humid, only rained enough to annoy on 2/14 days.

@jellycatandkittens Our trip was 15 years ago! So probably irrelevant prices for 2024. It was just a suggestion if you can afford it. Peru was Families Worldwide and more reasonable. I’d definitely look at them. South Africa is good in our summer hols too as it’s low season there but not bad weather. Just not hot.
