Where to go for 3 nights in August?

My mum is taking DC away for a week in August and DH and I would like to go away for a few days but can't decide where. We can't even decide if we want a city break or a beach/pool type one.

I have been thinking about Marrakesh, which looks gorgeous but will be very hot in August and with any luck I might be a little bit pregnant then so 40+ temp would be a bit much. We also like the look of Venice but could do with some other suggestions please!

For less heat, Channel Islands ?

Northern European cities - Copenhagen, Paris etc?

Copenhagen looks nice, will add it to the list. Thanks MmeCellophane.

We did a day trip to Venice from a holiday in Rimini a couple of years ago. (It rained a lot there in August too, I remember).

Absolutely want to go back for longer and prefered it to Rome but would definitely want to avoid the heavy tourist crowds of August. At one point, the narrow streets literally came to a standstill due to the massive volume of paedestrians/tourists stopping every few steps for photos. It was also difficult to find restaurant with an empty table at lunch-time.

We did a couple of nights in Paris again this year and still loved it. It just gets better every time.

My husband has travelled all around europe and likes to recommend Prague for anyone interested in sight-seeing/culture etc.

For this country, if the weather's good and absolute pampering luxury there is Shrigley Hall nr Macclesfield (Still very romantic!) and best of all Lodge on the Loch at Loch Lomond (favoured by american presidents etc) where every room in the main building has it's own sauna and a balcony over the loch.

I definately wanted to go abroad but hearing the description of Lodge on the Loch I may change my mind!

Skyscanner is a great website if you're not bothered about your destination - just see what's cheapest!

Barcelona is fantastic, really romantic

SugaryBits · 17/04/2008 20:16

I went to Barcelona last year with friends last year and absolutely loved it! Think I would like to try somewhere we both haven't been though.
Will check out skyscanner, thanks all.

Also, another question... would it be better to book now or wait and get a last minute deal. Don't want to wait and then find prices have gone up!
