Milan appears to be closed for the summer!

Okay, I can't blame them, I'm sure it gets really hot in August, but we've made our reservations (as part of a bigger trip) and everywhere I've researched or had recommended to me is closed between July 25-August 25! The big attractions are open but it feels like the only restaurants open will be big international chains (Wagamama!) or tourist traps. Does anyone have any inside information? Of course it was our mistake for booking over the summer but due to various circumstances this was the only time/affordable trip we could do...

Italy is notorious for effectively shutting down in August as it's so hot & lots of people take their holidays then.
Most tourist areas are fine, but yes lots of other businesses close.

@APurpleSquirrel thanks for that, I'm discovering this. Seeing as how it's too late to change, I was hoping someone had any kind of recommendations or tips!

Yes loads of Europe shuts down for August. Most of Paris seems to flee to the countryside. Touristy spots will have things open but the natives will not be there!

It's the Italian way, closures before and after ferragosto, get out of the city whilst it's unbearable.
