Alicante/ Torrevieja - any advice on activity for last day of holiday?

Hi wise MNers,

We have to check out of our holiday accommodation by 11am on our last day, but our flight isn't until the evening - we won't really have to even start worrying about filling up the hire car with petrol until about 6pm!

We are a family of 4: me, DH, DS1 aged 7y and DS2 aged 3.5y.

We've had a lot of lovely chill days at the beach in the early morning and then playing in the pool through the day - so don't need to make any more beachy memories!

We have one big suitcase and then just small EasyJet "hand luggage", basically rucksacks for each of us. These will be fairly full and heavy but I can consolidate a snacks and water bag for the last afternoon, and we can leave all the bags in the car.

Can anyone share with me what their plan would be for the last 7 hours of holiday fun? Does Alicante or Torrevieja have nice parks/ museums/ must-see things for kids that we can do without sweating ourselves silly on a hot afternoon?

If it was just the grown-ups I could see us chilling in a lovely tapas bar for a few hours - but the kids won't want to sit still for longer than a quick pastry-based snack!

I'm really open to anything and would appreciate any and all advice - thank you!

Alicante town has some lovely things for kids.

Calle de san Francisco (aka mushroom street) is a pedestrian street full of fun kid statues, slides, etc.

The fort is fun but you'd want to get the bus or funicular up, it's a long walk up for little legs. Stunning views.

Parc el palmerel is nice, lots of palm trees and lakes. Shady walks where the kids can run off steam safely.

Plaza san cristofol or Plaza quijano are squares that have tapas bars but also a couple of kids play park features. So you could manage some tapas while the kids played within sight.

I know you're not too bothered about beaches, but the Platja del Postuguet area is lovely for a drink or tapas stop. There's people watching along the beach prominade, several play parks of the beach. Short walk away is the marina, nice to look at.

Elche's Palm tree "gardens" are nice.

Do not go to robbery central.
PPs advice on Alicante is perfect.

Thanks all! Much appreciated! @turtletum you've given me loads to consider, I think I'll definitely head in to Alicante - the heat makes the sand burn by midday though so we will need to find shady places!! And also parking... Hmmm...

I'm also trying to find a decent local water park for the kids - not for the last day! But for this weekend - they do love a water slide and we've stayed very local so far... If anyone has recommendations I'd be super grateful!!
