Greek Islands.... Can you still get rooms at the harbour?

DS is planning a last minute Greek Island trip with a friend - 7 days. Flying to Rhodes and getting the ferry to Symi or flying to Zakynthos and visiting Kefalonia by ferry.

There doesn't seem much affordable accommodation left online. Do local people still offer rooms or small apartments in nearby houses as you get off the boat? Back in the eighties, this was just how it worked, but maybe it's been consigned to history?

Gosh i think that is from times past yes, when people used to write to hotels to book or do so at the tourist office.

😀 at least I know now thanks! We didn't even have to look anything up or write to anyone. As you walked off the ferry people would offer to show you their nearby rooms...usually clean, basic and inexpensive. If you didn't like the look of anywhere, you just mumbled an excuse and left to look at another. Much easier than wrestling with AirBnB !

Haven't done that for years, but I think he'd have more success with Kefalonia than Symi, which is tiny.

This still happens on some islands, particularly the Cyclades.
