Broken a glass in holiday home

On holiday in a caravan holiday home and have accidentally broken a wine glass. Different design to the standard glass. There’s a posh homewares shop nearby where perhaps I could buy a new set but would be expensive.
What do I do? Confess? Leave a note and a fiver? It’s a budget place and we are on a budget.
Are minor breakages expected and overlooked?

Just confess - they'll likely say don't worry, or they'll charge you a small amount. I don't see why anyone would have a fancy wine glass in a caravan so dont panic about the cost.

Message and apologise and over to pay for a replacement, they will likely decline, accidental breakages are part and parcel

Have a holiday home and glasses get broken but really don't worry about it and don't replace it, I wouldn't expect anyone to do that. Letting them know and apologising is more than a lot of people would do.

Enjoy your holiday.

I think holiday home owners expect this occasionally and take it into account. We're all human.

Post a picture of the glass and I bet someone will know where it's from.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/07/2024 10:50

I’d replace it.

I used to own a holiday let and honestly its part and parcel. In fact I kept a small supply of glasses, mugs etc tucked away just in case.

If you could let the owner know it would be great just so they can replace it but honestly don't fret.

Butterflyfern · 29/07/2024 10:52

Last time we did this, I dropped the owners a note to apologise and replaced with a cheap supermarket one. Was all fine and the host thanked me for replacing myself and saving her a job.

Mrsjayy · 29/07/2024 10:55

Just tell them don't replace anything. Fwiw we used to have a static caravan and occasionally let it out our glasses came from a supermarket cheap as anything, you might be wasting your money replacing it with a fancy glass.

Mrsjayy · 29/07/2024 11:03

Actually is it the parks caravan or did you rent it privately? If its the park go to reception and tell them they might replace it for you or definitely when you leave.

Peonies12 · 29/07/2024 11:04

Just put it in the bin and get on with your holiday, it's really not an issue. Definitely don't replace it.

Holiday let owners keep a stock of replacements - I know I do. All the crockery, glasses, all in the store cupboard ready for change over. I buy wine glasses in bulk, they cost pennies. A budget place won't have expensive crystal or designer stuff.
Just let them know so the cleaner can bring a replacement.

Billybagpuss · 29/07/2024 12:11

I’ve done this before I usually leave a note and a fiver

Thanks all xxx
