Cruise - South America

I'd love to travel to South America but would probably be alone and so I am considering whether a cruise might be a good option. Although, not entirely sure which cruise lines go and where down that way. Just looking for some recommendations if anyone has done this trip. Had a quick Google earlier but mainly turned up Bahamas, US Virgin Islands and Mexico

A lot of the highlights of South America are inland so I’m not sure a cruise is ideal. Would you consider a group guided trip - Intrepid for example?

Thanks you make a great point. I'll check this link out

Fred Olsen do one from Southampton to the Caribbean then through the Panama Canal, Peru, down Chile, Argentina to Antarctic then the Falklands, Brazil, the Canaries back to Southampton. Its a good one. 11 weeks. I missed out a few stops like Uruguay Bahamas etc, but you've got the picture. If they're not fully booked you can just join at some point and leave at a pre arranged port.

Norwegian Cruise Lines go to South America - you can go down one side of the continent and back up the other!

Have a look at Vivavoyage - they are an online cruise travel agent - you can search by destination (ie South America) and it will show all the options of cruises that visit that destination. We use them for booking cruises as they are a bit cheaper than going to the cruise line direct.

How about a river cruise on the Amazon ?
