Flight delay claim?

Has anyone successfully put in a claim for a flight delay (over 3 hours) it was due to staffing of the aircraft. Just wondered if it was worth doing and how to go about it? It was a BA flight - Spain to a UK airport

Yes it was very simple with BA, just filled in the standard form and confirmation was received very quickly. We were delayed by 3 hours, 2 minutes.

Great, thanks!

We did this last year with Ryanair….delayed 3 hours 10 mins going to Spain….the full refund was back in our account within 48 hours

There should be a claim form on the airline's website, which may or may not say EU261. Don't bother with the "Air Claim" companies, they add zero value. You will get €250 or €400 per person, depending on whether the flight was below 1500km (e.g., Barcelona to Gatwick) or above 1500km (e.g., Malaga to Manchester).

Yes, very simple to do, you'll be amazed!

Yes it’s very simple to do ours was Ryanair an overnight and they arranged a hotel and announced on the flight everyone was entitled to compensation.
It was really easy to claim and they paid out quickly.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/07/2024 11:15

We did it with EasyJet - not the quickest but we got our compensation within a month or so.

Wizzair a different story. They cancelled our flight three hours before it was a due to takeoff. They ignored all correspondence and didn't meet any of their own customer service deadlines. We had to take them to the small claims court in the end. They paid us the compensation about a day before the small claims court judgment was to be made. We also had to get our bank to claim back the cost of the flight via a charge back as Wizzair refused to refund and said they would only give is a credit voucher.

Yes with Ryanair it’s simple….especially if you have an account….I fly Ryanair loads….it’s only ever happened once with us, but compensation came within 48 hours…..people call Ryanair fit to burn…..but you take as you find

Underlig · 28/07/2024 11:37

Yes, very easy. Ours was with EasyJet.

stonkytonk11 · 28/07/2024 15:30

Found it easily enough but I misunderstood...although it was over 3 hours when we left, we did not arrive at our destination more than three hours over so I won't be able to claim. Thanks anyway!!

@AngelsWithSilverWings I've got a reclaim to do from Wizzair. I was delayed by ten hours last week! I can't seem to find a reclaim form on the website.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 30/07/2024 08:24

@izzy2076 they don't make it easy! I've had a search for you and can't find a link to a form either. Did you get a notification of the delay - there may be a link on that.

First thing is to check that the delay was the fault of the airline.

Once you've found the form and completed it make sure you request cash compensation as they try to push you to accept Wizz credit.

They have 30 days to respond.

If they don't send them an email co forming you will take legal action via the small claims court if they don't reply within two weeks.

Then do an online small claims application and you should get your money.

We got great advice from searching the money saving expert forum and also from a really informative post on trip advisor that explained the process to us. It was two years ago that we did it so don't have all the information anymore.

izzy2076 · 30/07/2024 08:44

@AngelsWithSilverWings thank you so much! There's no sign of the form anywhere. I can't find an email address either. Grrrr....

I found this page https://wizzair.com/en-gb/request-compensation

Near the bottom it says "Please open your Itinerary first". I don't have an itinerary with them, so I'm not sure how this works - for example, will it work out that I opened it in another tab? Or perhaps there is a link on the itinerary page that will take me to this same "Request compensation" page, but with some clever stuff in the URL that enables the page to pop up a form.

For example, they might only add that link to pages where they know they have to pay compensation. That might make sense since they probably have a lot of people trying it on.

Thank you. You are all so helpful!
