Holidays that feel exclusive but aren’t expensive?

Thinking about a winter holiday. I like to feel
special. So I’m sure as nice as Lanzarote is, it doesn’t do it for me because it doesn’t feel ‘exclusive’.

Where does and isn’t too expensive? Places we’ve been in the past that have this feel are Paros in Greece, Camps Bay in South Africa, areas of Menorca in Spain.

So I think it’s either somewhere that is reasonably affordable and attracts a slightly posher crowd. Doesn’t need to be luxurious.

Madeira should fit the bill? Although our definition of luxurious may not match of course 😂

I was also going to say Madeira. Would be interested in the areas of Menorca @purpleruge for when I next visit

Sicily has a bit of a feel to it, mostly well dressed Italians than helps. Mostly it's hotels on a b&b basis then heading out to little restaurants for dinner

South of France around Nice, Antibes etc. though may not be warm enough for you if you want a beach holiday.

Sardinia?

although I’m not sure about it for a winter holiday

Marrakech riads might be worth a look. Dec weather better than Jan/Feb.

Also Canaries do feel very different if you get away from the big coastal resorts and stay in the old Spanish towns. Lanzarote in particular has a fair bit to do and see inland - volcanoes, wineries, Cesar Manrique buildings etc

Montenegro?
